Wind tunnel modelling offers possibly the most accurate method of modelling the effect of the external wind  on structures and on airborne discharges.

On a structure such as on offshore platform, wind tunnel modelling can be used to :

· examine the wind environment around the helideck,

· examine the dispersion of exhaust plumes

· design inlets and safe refuges

· Assess the loads on the structures

· examine the effect of the external wind on ventilation.

Such tests are especially important where the topography is complex or where there are many buildings and structures.
